Custom 98-Key Wireless Bluetooth Mechanical Keyboard Kit with Screen Options
Assemble your ideal typing instrument with this comprehensive mechanical keyboard kit, designed for users who value personalisation. The core offering is a 98-key layout that bridges the gap between a full-sized keyboard and a more compact form, retaining the number pad while saving some desk space. Its primary appeal lies in its three-mode Bluetooth wireless connectivity, freeing you from cables for a cleaner workspace during gaming sessions or long office hours. Sold as a kit, it presents a blank canvas; you supply the mechanical switches and keycaps to match your preferred tactile feel and visual style, creating a keyboard tailored precisely to your needs.
Features and Construction
This keyboard kit is defined by its flexible construction and array of optional features. It is not a pre-assembled peripheral but a foundation for a custom build, with several key hardware decisions left to the user. The available configurations allow you to prioritise different aspects of functionality and aesthetics from the outset.
Layout and Connectivity
The 98-key layout is the centrepiece, providing all the standard alphanumeric keys, function row, navigation cluster, and a dedicated number pad. This makes it suitable for data entry, complex gaming keybinds, and general productivity. The three-mode Bluetooth connectivity is a significant feature, enabling the keyboard to pair with and switch between multiple devices wirelessly, such as a PC, laptop, or tablet. A 1.6m cable is also included, providing a reliable wired connection option when needed.
Screen and Aesthetic Options
A major differentiator is the choice between versions with an integrated display screen and versions without. The screen versions may offer system monitoring or customisation interfaces. All versions, whether with a screen or not, include a metal control knob, adding a tactile element for adjusting volume, scrolling, or other assigned functions. Visually, the kit is available in numerous combinations. You can select a white or black base background, which is then paired with a themed colour scheme such as Jiangnan, misty rain, seaweed, lilac, fog blue, or light pink.
Uses and Placement
The kit's design supports a wide range of computing activities, from leisure to professional work. Its wireless capability and adaptable nature make it suitable for various desk setups and user preferences, whether at a dedicated gaming station or a multi-device office environment.
Gaming and Esports Use
For gamers, the 98-key layout offers ample keys for complex macro commands and in-game actions without sacrificing the number pad. The wireless operation reduces cable clutter on the desk, and the metal knob can be programmed for instant adjustments like in-game volume control. The ability to build the keyboard with your choice of switches allows you to optimise for the actuation force and feedback that best suits your gaming style, from rapid keystrokes to tactical precision.
Office and Productive Work
In an office or home office setting, the wireless functionality allows for a clean desk aesthetic and easy pairing with laptops or all-in-one computers. The full number pad is invaluable for finance, data analysis, or any role involving frequent numerical input. The option to choose switches can tailor the typing experience for comfort during long documents or coding sessions, potentially reducing fatigue compared to standard membrane keyboards.
Benefits and Buying Value
Choosing a kit format offers distinct advantages in customisation and potential long-term value. It shifts the investment from a pre-configured product to a platform you can modify and potentially upgrade over time, aligning with the DIY ethos of the mechanical keyboard community.
Customisation and Personalisation
The core value proposition is deep personalisation. You are not limited to a manufacturer's pre-selected switch type or keycap profile. You can research and select switches (linear, tactile, or clicky) and keycaps (material, profile, legend style) that perfectly match your desired sound, feel, and look. This results in a keyboard that is uniquely yours, reflecting your specific preferences for typing and aesthetics.
Why Choose This Product
This kit is for the user who wants a wireless, full-featured mechanical keyboard but desires control over the final build. It provides the essential framework—the PCB, case, stabilisers, and wireless module—while you supply the personality through switches and keycaps. The variety of base models (screen/no-screen, multiple colour themes) means you can start with a visual style you genuinely like. It represents a step into custom keyboard building without requiring you to source every single component individually.
