K87 Wired Mechanical Keyboard with Choice of Green or Red Switches and Metal Frame

Selecting the right mechanical keyboard often comes down to the typing feel you prefer, and the K87 offers a clear choice between two distinct switch types: Green and Red. This wired keyboard is built around a solid metal frame, giving it a stable, substantial base for gaming sessions or long typing tasks. With a universally compatible 1.4m USB cable, it's ready to connect to most desktop setups. Further personalisation is available through its range of two-tone colour options, including combinations like Blue White, Pink White, Gray Black, and classic monochrome finishes, allowing the keyboard to blend with or accent your workspace.

Features and Construction

The K87's design focuses on providing core mechanical keyboard benefits with straightforward functionality. Its build and switch options define its primary user experience, while the colour selections offer visual customisation.

Material and Build

The chassis of the K87 is constructed from metal, which contributes significant weight and rigidity to the keyboard. This metal frame helps prevent flexing during intense typing or gaming, providing a firm and consistent platform for the mechanical switches mounted within it. The use of metal in the construction is a key differentiator, offering a more solid feel compared to keyboards using predominantly plastic housings.

Size and Practical Fit

The keyboard is connected via a fixed 1.4 metre long USB cable. This length offers sufficient reach for most standard desk configurations, allowing you to route the cable from the computer to a comfortable typing position. The 'K87' designation typically refers to an 87-key tenkeyless layout, which omits the numeric keypad to save desk space while retaining the main typing cluster and navigation keys, making it a compact choice for users with limited space or who prefer a centred mouse position.

Uses and Placement

This keyboard's combination of switch options and sturdy build makes it suitable for various computing environments, from focused work to recreational gaming.

Event or Professional Use

For environments where multiple users may share equipment or where a reliable, plug-and-play peripheral is essential, the K87's universal compatibility and durable metal frame are advantageous. Its tenkeyless layout is often favoured in competitive gaming or on crowded event desks due to its space-saving design. The choice of Red switches can provide a quieter, less distracting linear action for office settings, while Green switches offer the audible and tactile confirmation some users prefer.

Everyday Home Use

At home, the K87 serves as a durable daily-driver keyboard for general computing, writing, and gaming. The metal frame ensures it can withstand regular use, and the variety of colour options—from subtle Gray Black to vibrant Pink White or Blue White—allows it to complement different room decors. The mechanical switches are rated for tens of millions of keystrokes, suggesting a long functional life for everyday tasks.

Benefits and Buying Value

The value of the K87 mechanical keyboard lies in its straightforward provision of key mechanical keyboard features without unnecessary complexity, backed by a physically robust design.

Reuse and Low Maintenance

The metal frame is inherently resistant to warping and cosmetic wear from daily use, aiding the keyboard's longevity. Mechanical switches are user-replaceable in many designs, suggesting the potential to extend the keyboard's life by swapping individual faulty switches rather than replacing the entire unit. The lack of software dependencies due to its universal compatibility means it can easily be moved between different computers or operating systems over time.

Why Choose This Product

You might choose the K87 if you seek a mechanical keyboard that prioritises a solid build foundation with its metal frame over flashy, software-driven features. The direct choice between Green (tactile/clicky) and Red (linear/smooth) switches allows you to match the keyboard to your preferred typing feedback from the outset. Its tenkeyless design saves desk space, and the included 1.4m cable is sufficient for most setups, making it a practical, ready-to-use peripheral straight from the box.
